Center Investigator and Assistant Professor of Surgery Kyle Cromer, PhD, MPhil, is a recipient of this year’s 2023 American Society of Hematology (ASH) Scholar Award. One of ASH’s most prestigious research award programs, the ASH Scholar Awards, supports early-career investigators dedicated to careers in hematology research as they transition from training programs to independent investigators.

From today’s ASH announcement of the 33 recipients for its 2023 Scholar Awards, he is one of 13 Basic/Translational Junior Faculty selected for this honor.

The program funds hematologists in the United States and Canada who conduct basic, translational, and clinical research to understand further and treat blood disorders.

Dr. Cromer’s proposal seeks to use insights from human clinical genetics to engineer genome-edited HSCs biased toward the erythroid lineage in vivo. The hypothesis is that this would increase the curative potential of genome-edited HSCs for treating red blood cell disorders.

The program funds hematologists in the United States and Canada who conduct basic, translational, and clinical research to understand further and treat blood disorders. We are thrilled Dr. Cromer received this award and congratulate this year’s recipients for working to improve the care of individuals living with blood disorders.
